Regional Congress - Brief Results

The Wellington Regional Congress was held at the Wellington Bridge Club over the weekend 10-12 July. Successful pairs and teams were:

Provincial Pairs - 10A: 1) Michael Ware-Michael Whibley; 2) Stephen Blackstock-Stephen Henry; 3) Murray Jurgeleit-John Luoni.

Introductory Bridge Classes


Several of the clubs in the Wellington Region run regular introductory classes. The Centre encourages you to contact your nearest club for details (see the clubs page on this website for contact information).

For example, Wellington Bridge Club (email: wnbridge@paradise.net.nz) and Hutt Bridge Club (email: hbcinc@xtra.co.nz) both run lessons on Tuesday evenings throughout most of the year.

Advanced Players' Coaching Sessions
From time to time, coaching sessions for aspiring tournament players are part-sponsored and run in association with the Centre.

Interprovincial Teams 2009 - Youth Team Announced

Following trials at the end of June and selection of the third pairs, the Wellington interprovincial teams are as follows:

Senior Lyn Mansfield-Barbara Daly; Lorraine Inglis-Judy Plimmer; Michael Gibson-Vil Gravis; NPC Gary Duncan

National Trial Successes

The national trials were held in Christchurch over Easter. The only Wellingtonian to emerge victorious was Michael Whibley, who was on the team that won the Open trials and so will play in the Bermuda Bowl later this year.

Alan Grant and Anthony Ker came second in the Open trials and Michael Gibson second in the Seniors trials, meaning that they will represent New Zealand in the PABF Championships.

Further, Michael Whibley and Liam Milne will represent New Zealand Youth in the PABF Championships

These selections are subject to NZB confirmation.

1st World Youth Congress, Istanbul, Turkey, August 15-23

New Zealand is represented in this event by team Aotearoa. Team members are:

Wellington's Michael Whibley
Hamilton's Blair Fisher
Wanganui's Luke Gardiner and
Argentina's Juan Cruz Etchepareborda

Mixed Pairs 3A results

This tournament was played at Karori on 26 April. 1st Graeme Norman-Sandra Pritchard; 2nd Johnny Davidson-Andrea Gluyas; 3rd Anthony Ker-Mindy Wu. Full results are in the Tournaments section.

Wellington Bridge Congress 2008

The congress has been completed and was a success. Winners of Open events were:
